#197) of the Toronto Chapter at our table at the
April 6 Lakeshore Model Railroaders' Association
Flea Market at Humber College, partly to sell
members' surpluses, and partly to promote CARM.
The sign beside Derek shows national benefits
(conventions and The Canadian) on the left, and
Toronto Chapter activities (meetings, layout
visits and newsletter) on the right. In front
of it are national and chapter newsletters and
CARM and Hamilton Convention flyers. The rest
of the table held bargains, mostly already gone.

Tuesday March 4, 2008. 19:15
Host: Railview Model Railroad Associates
The Railview Associates layout includes
downtown Hamilton, downtown Toronto and almost
everything in between, including Bayview
Junction. It is one of the largest layouts
around, and the group has done an amazing job in
just around four or five years. Their earlier
layout was featured in RMC.
We will each be operating a train, with
guidance from a club member, so only 10 get to
play. If necessary we will arrange another
visit. RESERVE via Ian at 416-757-4628
or ianmc@eol.ca.
By Car: Take Warden Avenue North past
Steeles to Alden Road / 14th Avenue, just before
the railway overpass. Turn left/west on Alden,
go one block, turn right/northwest, then before
crossing the tracks turn right/northeast into
the driveway. Drive past George’s Trains North
(formerly Railview) to the next building. To
the northeast of the second large rollup door is
the pedestrian door.
TTC: #68 Warden North from Warden
Station. Crossing Steeles into Markham costs a
second ticket, when you get off at Alden Road /
14th Ave. Walk west on Alden to the first
driveway, then right/north to the tracks and
turn left. |

Ontario Northland Agincourt Sub replicates the
CP and ONR yards in North Bay, the town of
Temagami and more. The setting is September
1978, allowing a good mix of CP, CN, ONR and Via
equipment.
The layout is G shaped in a 13’x22’ room, with 2
and 3 levels of track, 48” to 58” high, 26”
minimum radius curves and a 9 track staging
yard. Control is NCE DCC. Scenery is about 10%
complete, with some detailed areas and scenic
sound (or is it sonic scenery?).
As in dining cars, there will be an early and a
late viewing, up to 6 people each.
By Car: From 401 eastbound, take Kennedy
south, left/east on Progress, left/north on
Midland under 401, first right onto Goodland
Gate, right on Marilake. From 401 westbound,
take McCowan north to second light, left/west on
Pitfield, left/south on second street past
Brimley.
TTC: #57 Midland North from Kennedy or
Midland RT Station, off at Goodland Gate, right
on Marilake. Whichever way you travel, stop in
at the crossbucks, look, listen and enjoy!

Ed Warren |
Vancouver Island Chapter Meet at the Duncan E&N
Station on January 26, 2008.
Called to order at 0930. 12 members present.
Treasurer reported on the bank balance, and
petty cash. It was decided to hold meets
in late April, October and January. They should
not interfere with other events like NMRA shows
etc. and should have some educational component-
clinics or seminars, show and tell,
and layout or prototype visits. The Duncan
Forestry Museum was
suggested as the next venue. Martin Lapp has
agreed to help with
organizing the meet.
Moved by Andy Barber, seconded by Wolf Riedel
nominating Ed Warren as President. No other
nominations. Carried.
Moved by George Shultz, seconded by Dan Saucier,
nominating Sterling Stump as Secretary
Treasurer. No other nominations. Carried.
Ed and Sterling agreed to serve a one year term
only. Ed noted that the shuffle of executive
saved changing signatures at the bank. Business
meeting adjourned at 0955. A day long meet with
clinics, hobby shop visit, home layout tours and
show and tell followed the business meeting.

Gary Baillargeon |
On Thursday June 14, 2007 the first official meeting of the recently constituted National Capital Chapter of the Canadian Association of Railway Modellers was held at St. Anthony's Soccer Club (one of the premier model railroading venues in Ottawa) with nine CARM members attending. Chapter membership is drawn from the eastern Ontario and western Québec region.
Chair Gary Baillargeon quickly got through the business portion of the meeting eliciting consensus to hold quarterly meetings, build membership by participating in several local festival events in the area over the summer and fall including the Smith Falls Railroad Museum and RailFair, and reported briefly on the National Convention in Victoria last month. Seanna Watson, chapter webmaster announced the establishment of a no cost Internet meeting website at natcap.caromblogspot.com
Ron Newby assumed responsibility for future reports to "The Canadian", while Peter Jackson took on member communications. Several members expressed interest in representing the chapter at the various upcoming regional events.
Paul Anderson will co-ordinate the NCC contribution to the HO Free-Mo Modular display at the CARM National Convention in Hamilton next May.
The evening concluded with Paul's fascinating review of his experiences at the National Convention including his return from Vancouver to Ottawa on VIA, with Gary adding many illustrative anecdotes.
The next meeting will be Wednesday September 19, 2007 at 7:30 pm at St.Anthony's.
