Peterborough Model Railroaders

The Peterborough Model Railroaders had there annual Modeling Contest this week (December 10th, 2009). We have been doing this for the last 8 years as a way of challenging our skills and trying something new. In the past we have followed a theme: Dilapidated buildings, what can you do with a caboose ?, build a business car and this year it was an "open category", model what ever you like. Theo built a HO car shop with blanked out windows and a detailed interior. Garth scratch built the HO Forest Fire Tower from the Red Green show complete with interior and delusional ranger. Ron S modified an HO kit so his grand children would think it is on fire. Conrad photographed a local "back alley scene " and then modeled it in HO. The excellent detail and creativity were rewarded by 'Best In Show". Ron H scratch built a tired HO rural store surrounded by lots of details. Dave G kit-bashed a HO factory kit by moving loading docks filling in windows , adding extra detail and completing it with great weathering and custom decals. Alex kit-bashed an old HO Bachmann steam engine by adding a brass cab, details and modifying the tender. A Roundhouse caboose was shorted and copula raised, an the consist was painted and decalled in CPR. Jim kit-bashed, painted, weathered and detailed a MDC Climax and a Athearn Hustle to make 2 HOn30 engines. They run on N scale track using a Bachmann F unit and Kato SW chassis.
