| The Mt Washington Cog RR is located on the east side of Mt Washington in New Hampshire about 6 miles off of Hwy 302. Since 1869 the hour trip to the top has been done by steam, very unusual looking steam engines. New diesels are taking over but we were lucky to catch the first morning train which is still antique steam. The 3 hr round tip is punctuated by 2 switching stops, a stop at the water tower on the way up and a 30 minute visit to the observatory at the 6200 ' level. You travel to the sound of the rattling cogs and gears beneath your car. Great trip, scenery sounds and crew! |
